SPMT 594: Consulting Project

Barcelona Street Ball Sants x Fiba 3x3 Collaboration and Tournament

During my study abroad experience in Barcelona, I participated in a consulting group project where we partnered with Streeball Sants Barcelona, a grassroots basketaball organization focused on community engagement and youth development through 3x3 basketball.

Our group was tasked with identifying key areas for organizational growth. Through research we identified two primary challenges: limited expansion of their existing relationship with FIBA and an inconsistent digital presence that restricted their ability to effectively reach their target audience.

To address these challenge, we proposed a strategic initiative centered on hosting a FIBA-affiliated 3x3 tournament in Barcelona. This event was designed to align the organization's mission by creating both an amateur youth division (ages 14-18) and an elite 18+ division, providing inclusive opportunities for community participation while also introducing a competitive pathway for international play.

In addition, we recommended a comprehensive digital media strategy to better engage Gen Z audiences and increase visibility within the local basketball community.

This project required our team to apply problem-solving and decision-making skills by analyzing organizational needs, evaluating realistic solutions, and offering recommendations that balanced community impact with long-term growth.

Our approach reflected Gonzaga University's mission by emphasizing leadership, service, cultural awareness, and creating meaningful opportunities for others through sport.
